Schools and Society teaches students to recognize the structural and organizational framework of public schools, and how these public schools interact with the community. It describes current efforts of educational reform, and analyzes how these efforts affect the relationship between the school (district) and the community. After completing this course, students can analyze and propose solutions to current issues and problems that affect public school education today. Some of these issues include gang involvement in schools, drug and alcohol dependency among school aged children, and teen pregnancy. Students will have the knowledge to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of youth-oriented community programs upon completing this course.|
